Melanotan I dose guide

A peptide dosage chart, one peptide at a time: its dose range, how often it’s taken, a typical run and the units on your syringe. All 69 peptides in the PepVault library.

A community reference, not medical advice. Each range is what has been studied or is commonly run, never a dose for you.

Melanotan I dosage

Afamelanotide, the tanning-focused cousin of Melanotan II: a synthetic version of the skin's tanning hormone that darkens skin through the pigment receptor MC1R, with or without sun. Its only approval is Scenesse, a slow-release implant for the light-sensitivity disorder EPP (Europe 2014, US 2019); the research-grade powder the crowd injects for a tan is unregulated. In 1990s trials it tanned both poor and good tanners through sunscreen, and the tan lasted weeks after the course ended. Commonly reported: a slower, more even tan than with MT-2, less nausea and few of its libido effects; freckles and moles darken along with the tan.

Dose range
250–1000 mcg (research range). Studied in research — not a recommendation. FDA-approved as Scenesse (afamelanotide): one 16 mg implant placed under the skin by a trained clinician every 2 months, to increase pain-free light exposure in adults with erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP).
How often
Daily: Loading: daily for 10–14 days. Maintenance: 1–3 times a week.
A typical run
Loading 10–14 days, then maintenance. Community courses: a 10–14 day daily loading phase, then a few doses a week to hold the tan. Trials used mostly 10-day courses at far higher doses (0.08–0.21 mg/kg a day); the approved implant is one 16 mg implant every 2 months. Sun or UV adds to the tan.
How it’s taken
Vial: SubQ injection, Implant (Scenesse, clinic only)
Evidence
Established: Clinical trials or FDA-approved use exists
Half-life
~0.8–1.7 hours (measured in three people after SubQ injection; the slow-release implant's apparent half-life is about 15 hours, per its label)

Melanotan I on your syringe

With a 5 mg vial and 2 mL of water (2.5 mg in every mL), on a 0.5 mL (50-unit) U-100 insulin syringe: the low end, 250 mcg, is 10 units; and the high end, 1000 mcg, is 40 units. 20 doses in the vial at the low end. All U-100: 100 units to the mL. A U-40 syringe reads differently.
