The predecessor to semaglutide — a GLP-1 receptor agonist that reduces appetite and improves blood sugar control. Liraglutide requires daily injections (vs. semaglutide's weekly), which makes it less convenient, but it has the longest clinical track record of any GLP-1 drug. FDA-approved for both diabetes (Victoza) and obesity (Saxenda).
